How do I know if a photographer is professional?

There are two organizations in Australia for professional photographers. They are the AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photography) and the ACMP (Australian Commercial + Media Photographers). There are certain criteria to join these associations, which include having your work judged by your peers, your training and equipment, and acceptance of their codes of conduct. It’s a bit like employing a builder with a gold license. There are no guarantees, but you have the reassurance that
these photographers have passed the hurdles to receive membership.

This is not to say that other photographers are not up to this standard, but it
gives you peace of mind. Greg Bathurst is also listed with the Adobe
Photographers Directory (this gives Creative Directors direct access
from Photoshop) and is a member of Canon’s Professional Services.
